PRESCRIPTION FOR CHANGE - PSR-LA'S 2008 GALA DINNER

The year 2008 promises great change. Yet the need for a strong public health voice will remain - a credible voice that can push for dramatic policy changes on issues such as climate change and nuclear weapons. Physicians and health professionals bring to these efforts their unique ability to find and treat the root causes of problems, always with the aim to "first do no harm." This is our prescription for change.

As we prepare for exciting opportunities ahead, we invite you to join us on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica to honor and be inspired by some remarkable individuals who have brought their own unique abilities to our common goal of a safer, healthier world. I look forward to seeing you there.

PSR-LA's 2008 award recipients


Dr. James Yamazaki	Lawrence Bender	Joseph Cirincione	Dr. Hans Blix

Dr. James Yamazaki will receive our 2008 Socially Responsible Medicine Award for his compassionate research on the effects of radiation on victims of nuclear weapons in Nagasaki and Hiroshima and his ongoing efforts to create a more peaceful world.

Lawrence Bender will receive our 2008 Socially Responsible Media Award for using his innovative film-making talents to create powerful films such as An Inconvenient Truth that move the public to take unprecedented personal and political action.

Joe Cirincione will receive our 2008 Founders Award for drawing upon his exceptional expertise in nuclear and chemicals weapons to author numerous publications that have informed public policy and perception.

Dr. Hans Blix will receive our 2008 Peacemaker Award (in absentia) for his enduring efforts to rid the world of weapons of mass destruction.
